Welcome to TAAP
by Michelle Konieczny

Welcome to our inaugural issue of The Adoption Activism Press, or TAAP. We are looking forward to bringing you current news and informaiton that is relevant to the adoption community. In addition, we are excited to provide TAAP as an educational resource to those outside the adoption community that are
interested in learning the real truth about Closed Records Legislation, Adoptee Rights, and reunification of Birth Families.

The Adoption Activism Press is a publication created by volunteer members of the grassroots organization ABORN (Adoptees and Birthparents for Open Records Nationwide). ABORN members work daily on a State and Federal level to restore the rights that Adoptees' are denied by Closed Birth Records Legislation. These laws prohibit an adult adoptee from receiving a certified unaltered copy of their Original Birth Certificates when they reach the age of majority. This act of concealment denies the Adoptees' Civil, Constitutional, and Human rights. Rights that are enjoyed by every other Citizen in America, including, but not limited to the rights of, Free Speech and Association, Due Process, protection of private property from Illegal Search and Seizure, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness, and the right to life.

In order to realize our goals, ABORN works to educate the public through a variety of initiatives, and works to change laws by communicating with Legislators and other activists and organizations on the State and Federal Levels.

The Adoption Activism Press was borne of the need to provide information to concerned citizens that do not have access to the Internet. Since the mainstream media is either silent or guilty of perpetuating the myths of the Adoption Industry, TAAP was created to balance the scales a bit.

In each issue, TAAP will provide the latest in Activism News, Observations and articles concerning current events as they relate to adoption, information regarding Search Issues, and feature stories that offer a rare glimpse into the reality of adoption.

It is our hope that you would use the information found in this publication to inform yourself on the truth in adoption, to use that information to fight for Adoptees' rights across the country, and to conduct safe, legal searches for your loved ones.

Thank you for your support, and we look forward to getting to know you, our readers, as we continue to fight, and one day realize our dreams of Open Records and acknowledgement of the truth
across America.
